Agner, Kaiser named Bulldogs of the Week

Softball’s K.K. Agner and Golf’s Chase Kaiser have been named Bulldogs of the Week for Feb. 6-12.

Agner, a sophomore third baseman from Horn Lake, homered in both ends of a doubleheader sweep at Coastal Alabama-East. She went 3-for-3 with four RBI in a 6-2 win, then finished 2-for-3 in a 5-4 win. She’s second in the NJCAA in homers (4) and RBI (17).

Kaiser, a sophomore from Natchez, won the Pearl River Invitational last week by six shots. He was 5-under and the only golfer to finish in red numbers, and he led Gulf Coast to a dominating 35-shot win.

Also nominated:

Donovan Sanders, a sophomore point guard from Walls, drove for a layup in the final 10 seconds to beat Meridian 78-76 at Perk. He had seven assists and shot 55 percent from the floor in the Bulldogs’ only game of the week.

Simaru Fields, a freshman guard from Gulfport, had a 22-point, 10-rebound double-double in a 60-57 loss at Meridian. She also had four assists and three steals in the Bulldogs’ only game of the week.

Jett Harrell, a freshman right-hander from Clarksdale, had Gulf Coast’s first complete game of the year, beating Coastal Alabama-East 6-2. She struck out eight and didn’t walk anybody, scattering six hits.

Hayden O’Dell, a freshman left-hander from Mobile, Ala., struck out seven in four innings to beat Coastal Alabama-South 12-5.

Sean Smith, a sophomore outfielder from Pascagoula, slugged home runs in both ends of a doubleheader split against Coastal Alabama-South. His grand slam tied the game in an eventual 6-4 loss, and he doubled and homered in the nightcap, a 12-5 blowout.

Bayley Askin, a sophomore from St. Martin, won her doubles and singles matches against No. 13 Meridian to lift No. 11 Gulf Coast to a 6-3 win in their season opener.

Anderson Dulaney, a sophomore from Long Beach, won his doubles and singles matches against No. 17 Meridian to give No. 14 Gulf Coast a 6-3 victory in the first match of the season.
