Congressman Mike Ezell has introduced legislation to rename the United States Postal Service facility at 825 Highway 198 in Beaumont, Mississippi, as the Jeremy Malone Post Office. The bill seeks to honor George County Deputy Sheriff Jeremy Malone, who was killed during a traffic stop on January 4, 2024.

Deputy Malone served in law enforcement for 21 years across South Mississippi and was recognized for his professionalism and dedication to public safety. Congressman Ezell said, “Deputy Jeremy Malone gave his life serving and protecting the people of George County and South Mississippi. As a former law enforcement officer myself, I understand the sacrifices that come with wearing the badge. Renaming the Beaumont Post Office in his honor ensures that his service, his character, and his dedication to community will never be forgotten. Deputy Malone represented the very best of law enforcement—service before self, commitment to others, and love for his community. It is an honor to help preserve his legacy for future generations.”

Malone also participated in community programs such as Santa Wears a Badge and the Blue Line Toy Drive, supporting families and children in need throughout the region. He is survived by his wife Hilary and their three daughters.

The proposed renaming aims to serve as a permanent tribute to Deputy Malone’s service and as a reminder of the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers.

Mike Ezell has been representing Mississippi’s 4th district in Congress since 2023 after succeeding Steven Palazzo (https://ezell.house.gov/about). Born in Pascagoula in 1959, Ezell continues to reside there (https://bioguide.congress.gov/search/bio/E000075). He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a BA in 1997.
