PRESS RELEASE

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

ONE SUSPECT ARRESTED

APRIL 4, 2022

At approximately 7:45 a.m. on Monday, April 4th, 2022, George County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a call for a possible burglary in progress at a residence in the area of Boots Walters Road and Butler Lane, in the Central Community of George County, MS. The homeowner had notified the George County Communications Center that an alert from a home security system showed an individual attempting to enter the home. Upon arrival, GCSO Deputies and Investigators cleared the home and, based upon information received, began canvassing the area for the suspect. At a residence in the 100 block of Butler Lane, Deputies encountered the suspect whom, after evading contact with officers, barricaded himself inside the home. After obtaining a search warrant, Officers were able to forcibly enter the home and take the suspect into custody. In the process of searching the home, Investigators found items that were stolen from several residences. In addition to items from the home reported that day, items from another home, which had burned down on March 24th, were also found. 37-year-old Kerry Edwin Ezell, of Richton, MS, was taken into custody and transported to the George County Sheriff’s Office for questioning. Ezell has been charged with two counts of Commercial Burglary and has been booked into the George County Regional Correctional Facility, where he awaits an initial appearance before George County Justice Court Judge Martin Seib. Ezell is also on Parole with the Mississippi Department of Corrections and has an indictment for Burglary in the City of Lucedale.

This is an ongoing investigation. If you have any information about this or any other crime, please contact the George County Sheriff’s Office at 601.947.4811.
