U.S. Senators Roger Wicker and Cindy Hyde-Smith have congratulated James “Baxter” Kruger of Jackson and Scott Leary of Water Valley on their confirmation as United States Attorneys for Mississippi’s southern and northern districts, respectively.
In a joint statement, the senators said, “We are pleased to congratulate Baxter Kruger and Scott Leary for their confirmation to be United States Attorneys for Mississippi. With their legal and law enforcement experience, these men have developed deep knowledge of Mississippi precedent and have exhibited sound and fair judgment in their careers. As they take on these new roles, we are confident in their leadership. We trust they will oversee federal investigations and criminal prosecutions in Mississippi with professionalism and respect for the rule of law.”
Kruger and Leary were confirmed Thursday as part of a larger group of nominees whose confirmations had been delayed. President Trump nominated both individuals in July, with support from Wicker and Hyde-Smith throughout the process.
Senator Wicker is a Republican representing Mississippi in the U.S. Senate since December 2007 after previously serving in the U.S. House, according to his official website. He currently serves as chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, sits on the Congressional Board of Visitors for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, co-founded the Senate Malaria and Neglected Tropical Disease Caucus to support global health initiatives, authored legislation to advance naval capabilities, and has been honored by national organizations for his policy work.
