(Jackson, Miss.) – On June 07, Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba, city officials and Richard Bradley with A3 Consulting and M-Bar Sports Lounge, announced a comprehensive plan to clean up debris and dumpsites, beautify Jackson, update needed infrastructure and open the City up to additional economic investment in west Jackson.
The recent effort is a continuation of the Mayor’s “Stop Trashing Jackson” campaign which seeks to tackle the issue of blight in Jackson one block at a time, and spur economic development in the Capital City.
“Today, we are announcing a very special cleanup right here in this area,” Mayor Lumumba said Wednesday at a news conference on Capers Avenue. “This cleanup is especially important because it is at the site of a new investment in the City of Jackson. This investment will impact our residents as we empower them to create a more robust and qualified workforce.”
The City is working with several partners in this ongoing endeavor, including Bradley and A3 Consulting, Keep Jackson Beautiful, the Boys & Girls Club, Greater Mount Cavalry Missionary Baptist Church, and community and neighborhood groups. The announcement follows cleanup efforts already undertaken in every ward in Jackson, including a massive overhaul ahead of the anniversary celebration of Medgar Evers. Meanwhile, the City of Jackson’s solid waste division, under the supervision of Lakesha Weathers, has been working diligently to address additional blighted areas of the City.
“We are dedicated to making Jackson a clean, inviting, thriving and safe live-work-play environment,” said Bradley. “This initiative will be a catalyst for economic development and growth and will restore luster to downtown Jackson and across the metroplex. It all starts with clean streets, manicured greenways and well-lit, safe neighborhoods. It’s time to stop trashing Jackson and open the door to an even greater quality of life and economic vitality for our city.”
The City of Jackson will continue to work with its partners to make Jackson an attractive and thriving environment for its residents, businesses and visitors. We will alert the media of additional cleanup efforts as we also strive to enlist residents in this campaign.
