U.S. Senator Roger Wicker announced that the Federal Aviation Administration has awarded Mississippi $21.48 million through 52 grants for airport improvements. The funds are aimed at enhancing runway construction, lighting, signage, and terminal facilities to improve the efficiency and safety of air travel.
“Upgrading local air travel is an investment in the future of Mississippi. This funding will bring necessary advancements to our airport systems and provide more business opportunities for Mississippians. I look forward to these improvements being made to spur economic development in our great state,” stated Senator Wicker.
The Airport Improvement Program will allocate $11,582,235 across various cities and counties in Mississippi. Notable allocations include $3,208,417 to Jackson Municipal Airport Authority and City of Jackson, $600,000 to the City of Prentiss, and $809,984 to County of Columbia & Marion.
Additionally, the Airport Infrastructure Grant Funding totals $9,895,282. Key recipients include Tupelo Airport Authority with $977,770 and Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport Authority receiving $941,918.
These investments aim to support critical infrastructure enhancements across Mississippi’s airports.
