Leaders from across the state, about 2,500, are in town this week for the annual summer meeting of the Mississippi Municipal League.
Delegates, guests, vendors, and family members in town to attend the three-day conference for training, leadership development, and fellowship taking place at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center today through Wednesday.
Speakers from many state and federal agencies are presenting educational sessions on a wide range of topics from state law updates, grant opportunities, municipal liability issues, community and economic development, infrastructure funding, disaster recovery, and water and sewer issues.
More than 150 equipment suppliers, consultants, businesses, and other local and state agencies will have exhibits at the convention center.
Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich will address the general session and the Biloxi Police Department will present the colors Tuesday morning.
The MML is the official non-profit private organization of nearly 300 cities and towns across the state, representing 98 percent of Mississippi’s municipalities. The organization lobbies state and federal policymakers on municipal issues, provides educational sessions and technical support for municipal officials, and is a networking medium for municipal members. Scrapin recap: Tens of thousands filled Biloxi roadways over the weekend for the annual Scrapin the Coast event. Traffic was heavy but flowing throughout the weekend. Biloxi Police implemented the emergency lane forcing traffic to go to one lane east and westbound on U.S. 90 Saturday and Sunday nights. And more than 1000 traffic tickets were issued for various violations of state law.
