Hurricane season begins today and runs through Nov. 30, and a host of disaster preparation and response authorities offer how-to advice in the new edition of “R U Ready?” on BTV, the city’s municipal TV channel.
The nearly 20-minute program, which airs at 8 a.m., 2 p.m., and 8 p.m. on BTV, is designed to provide a broad base of information from a variety of sources to help local residents and business owners prepare for storm season.
The 2023 “R U Ready?” is among the new programs in BTV’s June lineup, which makes it debut today. Also new this month: “Biloxi Cooks!” from Empanola and Shuckers Insider with June promotions.
This year’s program features Biloxi Fire Chief Nick Geiser; Director Christy LeBatard, Biloxi Engineering; Director Jerry Creel, Biloxi Community Development; Capt. Michael Strickland, Mississippi Department of Marine Resources; Katie King, Human Society of South Mississippi; Yvette Vogel, Coast Transit Authority; Kaila Moran Griffith, Mississippi Power; and Dr. Tracie Sempier, Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium.
The storm prep info continues with the new issue of BNews Monthly which has just arrived at homes and businesses in Biloxi. The June issue is the Storm & Flood Preparedness newsletter and includes information on evacuation and shelters; tips on how to create a storm plan for your family; frequently called numbers for local, state and federal agencies; Coast Transit Authority transportation service; flood zones, flood insurance rates; and easy-to-understand information about the city’s construction permitting process.

McKeithen post office: A dedication ceremony was held Wednesday afternoon at Biloxi City Hall for the naming of the U.S. Post Office on Main Street in honor of fallen Officer Robert McKeithen. To see images from the ceremony, click here.
Job fair: The City of Biloxi is hosting a job fair today at the Donal M. Snyder Center on Pass Road until 7 p.m. and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The city is seeking applications for various positions. To see the current job openings, click here.
