On August 16, 2025, Senator Wicker posted, “The Inaugural @Amtrak Mardi Gras train ride has begun. Next stop, Mississippi!” Later that day, he added a greeting for the rail line as it reached another city: “A warm welcome from Bay St. Louis to Amtrak!”

Continuing his coverage, Senator Wicker reported on the train’s timely arrival at another destination: “The Mardi Gras train was early to our stop in Gulfport! This on-time train will bring more jobs and tourists to the Gulf Coast.”

Senator Roger Wicker represents Mississippi in the U.S. Senate and has been an advocate for infrastructure development in his state. The introduction of new passenger rail service is seen by many local leaders as a way to stimulate economic growth and tourism across the Gulf Coast region.
