U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, has responded to recent announcements made by President Trump regarding military aid to Ukraine and potential tariffs on Russia. The president indicated a collaboration with NATO to continue supplying Ukraine with military assistance and warned of imposing U.S. tariffs on Russia if a resolution to the conflict in Ukraine is not achieved within 50 days.

In his statement, Chairman Wicker emphasized that Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly been given opportunities to negotiate but has instead chosen to continue what he described as a “terror campaign” against Ukraine. He praised President Trump’s commitment to a “peace through strength policy” and acknowledged the support from NATO allies, particularly Germany, for their immediate action in transferring weapons.

Wicker stated, “Putin understands only strength. I hope President Trump’s decision to accelerate military aid to Ukraine and threaten crippling sanctions will drive this conflict closer to its end.” He expressed his intent to work alongside Congress and Pentagon officials to enhance the president’s capacity for leveraging European resources in support of arming Ukraine.
