MARCH 9, 2022

On Monday, March 7th, 2022, the George County Sheriff’s Office responded to information concerning a possible stolen vehicle in the Shipman area of Hwy 98 in George County, MS. Deputies made contact with a vehicle matching the description of a 2009 Chevrolet Impala reported stolen in Jackson County the week prior. After verifying the vehicle as stolen through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), GCSO Deputies attempted to perform a traffic stop on the vehicle in the area of Brushy Creek Road. The driver of the vehicle failed to yield to blue lights or sirens, and a vehicle pursuit ensued that temporarily crossed into Greene County before ending on Hwy 98 near Green Road in the Rocky Creek community. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Jessica Renee Emery (32) of Lucedale, was taken into custody and booked into the George County Regional Correctional Facility. Emery has been charged with one count Resisting Arrest, once count Receiving Stolen Property, a George County Justice Court warrant for a prior charge of Failure to Yield to Blue Lights, and has a MDOC Parole Violation, as well. After an initial appearance before George County Justice Court Judge Martin Seib, Emery was given the following commercial bonds: Receiving Stolen Property - $ 1,000.00; Resisting Arrest - $ 2,000.00; Warrant for Failure to Yield - $ 500.00. At approximately 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 6th, 2022, the George County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for assistance in the 100 block of Ed Evans Road in the Basin community of George County, MS. Upon arriving in the area of the residence, Deputies came into contact with a female showing signs of physical injury who stated she had been involved in an altercation with her boyfriend earlier in the night. The female advised that her boyfriend had injured her during this altercation and had prevented her from leaving the residence or calling 911. After taking her statement, Deputies then proceeded to the residence to clear the scene and attempt to locate the suspect. Deputies found that the suspect had left the property at that time, but in returning to the property later in the day, they were able to locate and take into custody Kevin Michael Sykes (31) of Lucedale, MS.
