George County Sheriff's Office - In 1962, President John F. Kennedy Signed a Declaration Proclaiming May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the Week in Which It Falls as National Police Week

25

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a declaration proclaiming May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as National Police Week. This week is meant as a time for law enforcement, survivors, and citizens to gather and pay homage to those who gave their lives in the line of duty.

Sheriff Keith Havard would like to invite the public to attend a memorial ceremony on Wednesday, May 18th at 10 a.m., at the Fallen Officer Memorial on the southeast corner of the courthouse located on Cox Street. We will be honoring George County's Fallen Officers:

Sheriff J. E. Nelson

Sheriff Garry Welford

Deputy John Robert Street

Deputy Bobby Daffin

Please take time this week to remember the survivors of those men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their communities.
