George County Sheriff's Office - Inaugural 2-Gun Benefit Match

10

Have you heard??? We're holding our first ever Multi-Gun (pistol & rifle) Benefit Match in October! We're so excited to be hosted by MCTA Shooting Range & School on October 15th & 16th, and we hope you can join us there.

We've had a few questions about rules/age requirements/etc. so we just wanted to take a moment and try to fill in the blanks a little. If this sounds like something you or someone you know would be interested in, please take a second and share this post to help spread the word!

Who can compete? Anyone aged 10 and up can compete, but be advised, this match will contain stages that require participants to run, climb, and drag objects all while maintaining control of their firearms tasks; that may be much more difficult for younger competitors to accomplish safely. Any competitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied at all times by an adult; this adult doesn't have to compete but must be present with the minor at all times. There are no prerequisites to compete, but competitors need to be familiar with the 4 firearms safety rules and demonstrate safe weapon handling skills during the match. Shooting is inherently a dangerous sport, so along with the 4 firearm safety rules, there will be additional rules in place that will be explained to all competitors at the beginning of each day of the match, as well as a Range Officer on scene to enforce the rules. Shooting in your first match can be intimidating, but the competition community tends to be very friendly and welcoming to new shooters, so even if you've never competed before, feel free to join up!

What do you need to compete? At a minimum the following is needed:

-A serviceable rifle, with a detachable magazine. An AR pattern rifle chambered in 5.56 will be more than sufficient.

-A serviceable pistol, preferably a semi automatic pistol.

-A holster that is designed to securely contain the pistol that is being used.

-Eye protection.

-Hearing protection.

-A means to carry at least 1 rifle magazine on your body that will be secure while in motion (such as while running or climbing).

-A means to carry at least 2 pistol magazines on your body that will be secure while in motion (such as while running or climbing).

-Multiple spare magazines for your chosen rifle and pistol. The more you bring, the less time you spend reloading magazines between stages.

-An absolute minimum of 150 rounds of rifle ammunition, and 200 rounds of pistol ammunition. You are going to want to bring more, since these numbers are based on if a shooter is shooting the match "clean" - as in, they are not missing any of their targets and having to go back to use more ammo to make up for those misses. Expect to use more, especially if this is your first match.

-A bag to carry your spare ammunition and magazines, along with water and snacks.

-A hat, sun screen, and possibly bug spray may appropriate.
