Jackson County MS Government - Fort Bayou Boat Launch Will Be Closed Beginning Tuesday, September 6, 2022

5

Fort Bayou Boat Launch will be closed beginning Tuesday, September 6, 2022 to allow the County’s contractor to make several improvements to the facility. Pre-construction activity, including demolition work and arrival of pilings, will be take place the week prior and require the fishing pier at the east side of the launch to close around August 22.

The $382,885.00 project is expected to take 4 months to complete and will result in:

• Natural Kayak launch area

• Regraded old bridge approach to match the boat launch drive

• New bulkhead and rehabilitated finger pier

• New shade structure over the eastern fishing pier

• Repaved and striped parking lot

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to the public, but these improvements will ensure the continued enjoyment and use of the very popular Old Fort Bayou Boat Launch for years to come.

We would like to remind the public that there are many other boat launches along the Gulf Coast for their use.  These other boat launches can be located by viewing the MDMR’s Public Access website at https://gis.dmr.ms.gov/PublicAccess/.  For any questions about the project please call Matthew Hosey, Jackson County Project Manager at (228) 769-3088.
