Yesterday, Rocketman and other space tunes played in the hallways at Hancock Middle School as students, faculty and staff arrived in their best space attire in anticipation of the Artemis I launch. Energy was high as everyone arrived ready to witness history being made knowing that this was the first step in preparation of a future manned mission to Mars. It was evident that students and personnel were aware of Mississippi's part in the Artemis I rocket, especially the role of our neighbors at Stennis Space Center. The Center is in the spotlight of NASA’s Moon to Mars Artemis missions, as engine and propulsion systems testing for the new SLS rocket was performed at Stennis Space Center in Hancock County. Although the targeted August 29th launch of Artemis I was eventually scrubbed yesterday, their hope is that it will launch on Friday and they will all be watching.
