What background was most represented in Picayune School District schools in 2021-22 school year?

White students made up 57.2% of the 3,315 students enrolled in Picayune School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 3.6% increase over the previous school year.

Picayune Memorial High School had the highest enrollment in the district with 875 students.

A snapshot of Picayune School District schools showed 57.2% of students were white, 31.9% were Black, 6.4% were multiracial, and 1.4% Hispanic.

Picayune School District roughly covers nine schools within Pearl River County and has a main office in Picayune.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
