Today, Congressman Mike Ezell announced the passage of two legislative measures he introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives aimed at improving federal disaster response. The bills, H.R. 152 and H.R. 153, seek to enhance the operations of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and overall government disaster management.
"I am proud to see these two critical pieces of legislation, designed to streamline the federal government's response to disasters, pass the U.S. House with overwhelming bipartisan support," said Congressman Ezell. He emphasized that his proposals are intended to ensure a swift and coordinated response when disasters occur. "Our communities deserve a response that is swift, coordinated, and effective when disaster strikes."
Ezell also expressed gratitude towards Chairman Graves for his support in advancing these bills: "I am thankful to Chairman Graves for his leadership in helping to advance these bills." He added that he anticipates further action from Senate colleagues on this matter.
Chairman Graves commended Ezell's efforts: "I want to thank Congressman Ezell for his leadership as we work to improve disaster assistance programs for victims." He highlighted that the legislation would facilitate access to information about available programs and expedite assistance processes after disasters.
Dr. Natalie Enclade from BuildStrong America supported the initiatives: "The Post-Disaster Assistance Online Accountability Act and the Federal Disaster Assistance Coordination Act are crucial steps towards enhancing transparency, accountability, and efficiency in federal disaster response." She noted that these measures would ensure effective use of federal funds and promote resilience by improving data collection and public accessibility.
The Federal Disaster Assistance Coordination Act (H.R. 152) aims at making information collection more efficient for disaster assistance applicants by streamlining procedures. It passed with a vote of 405-5.
The Post-Disaster Assistance Online Accountability Act (H.R. 153) requires FEMA to publicly disclose damage impact information, enhancing transparency within federal agencies' responses. This bill was unanimously approved with a vote of 426-0.
As Vice Chair of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Congressman Ezell collaborates closely with committee members to uphold high standards in FEMA's disaster response efforts.
