2021-2022: What were the backgrounds of Pearl River County students?

Of the 8,479 students enrolled in Pearl River County schools in 2021-2022, 83.9% were White, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Pearl River County students.

This is an 8.7% increase over the previous school year.

Pearl River Central Upper Elementary had the highest enrollment of White students in the 2021-2022 school year.

A snapshot of Pearl River County schools showed 83.9% students were White.

There are 16 schools in Pearl River County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
