2021-22 School Year: What were the backgrounds of Gulfport School District students?

Black students made up 52.5% of the 6,349 students enrolled in Gulfport School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 0.8% decrease from the previous school year.

Gulfport High School had the highest enrollment in the district with 1,746 students.

A snapshot of Gulfport School District schools showed 52.5% of students were Black, 33.7% were white, 8.5% were Hispanic, 3.4% were multiracial, and 0.8% Asian.

Gulfport School District roughly covers nine schools within Harrison County and has a main office in Gulfport.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
