What background was most represented in Hancock County School District schools in 2021-22 school year?

White students made up 83.9% of the 4,134 students enrolled in Hancock County School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 1.1% decrease from the previous school year.

Hancock High School had the highest enrollment in the district with 1,230 students.

A snapshot of Hancock County School District schools showed 83.9% of students were white, 8.3% were Black, 3.8% were multiracial, 1.6% were Hispanic, and 0.3% American Indian.

Hancock County School District roughly covers six schools within Hancock County and has a main office in Bay St. Louis.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
