2019-2020: What were the backgrounds of Hancock County students?

Of the 6,204 students enrolled in Hancock County schools in 2019-2020, 79.2% were White, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Hancock County students.

This is a 0.8% decrease from the previous school year.

Hancock High School had the highest enrollment of White students in the 2019-2020 school year.

A snapshot of Hancock County schools showed 79.2% students were White, 13.3% were Black or African American, 4.2% were Two or More Races, 1.4% were Hispanic or Latino and 0.2% were Asian.

There are 10 schools in Hancock County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
