White had the largest percent of student body in Hancock County schools in 2020-2021 school year

Of the 5,822 students enrolled in Hancock County schools in 2020-2021, 79% were White, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Hancock County students.

This is a 0.2% decrease from the previous school year.

Hancock High School had the highest enrollment of White students in the 2020-2021 school year.

A snapshot of Hancock County schools showed 79% students were White, 12.6% were Black or African American, 4.9% were Two or More Races and 1.1% were Hispanic or Latino.

There are 10 schools in Hancock County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
