Popp’s Ferry fields close for lighting work
Replacement of light poles and electrical panels is in the works at Popp’s Ferry Recreational Complex causing closures to many of the fields.
Vandalism to the electrical panels as well as the poor condition of the lighting poles at most of the fields has caused the Biloxi Parks & Recreation Department to close the fields while improvements are made to the lighting.
The city is meeting with Mississippi Power later this week to propose a plan to replace poles, wiring, and lighting at the fields north and south of the concession stand, and replace the lighting at the fields north of the pickleball courts as well as construct new electrical panels at each of the fields. The upgrades are needed to place the lighting back in safe, working condition.
In the meantime, the soccer fields north of the dog park are closed 24 hours a day, and the fields east of the soccer fields and north of the pickleball fields will open only during daylight hours. Signs are posted at each park.
During the closure, crews will conduct maintenance on the fields. The closures will not affect the pickleball courts or the dog park.
No timeline has been set for the work.
